Week 3

We looked on in wonder at Joans finished work. She has used long and short stitch in white for the teachers top and it looks just like a fluffy warm woolly jumper. Its very tactile too and I had to stop people who wanted to 'pet it'.

Louise had it home for the week and started on the teachers book. She used a long and short stitch for the cover and the spine and inside pages - photo to follow of it complete. The edge of the pages were in a laid couch work and she thought it looked most like the edges of pages. She said that although she was daunted by the project and was being very careful not to make any mistakes once she had started stitching she really enjoyed it. She is going to go back over the cover of the book as there are some areas not covered enough.
This is Dorothy's sample for inserting in the bottom right corner. This is a design her grandson drew for Caithness Textile Artists 5 years ago. It depicts a herring, the sea and a needle.
Louise took photos of her kitchen door to get a pattern for the school desk as it was agreed to stem or split stitch a wood grain on it.  This idea was taken from the PrestonPans Tapestry book the group purchased.
